The XM Series three-stage pneumatic actuators are available in a 0° - 45° -90° or 0° -90° -180° mode of operation, The intermediateposition is achieved by the mechanical brake produced by the movement of two auxiliary pistons. The intermediate position isadjustable, such as a 90° rotary angle actuator can set intermediate position to be 20°, 30°, 50°, or 75°.

Note: The middle position can be customized according to requirements, such as 25%, 75%, etc.
Control mode
The piston is usually driven to different positions by a combination of dual gas control signals (double acting cylinders) or spring return + gas control signals.
Structure type
Double piston type: Three positions are switched through two sets of pistons or cylinders.
Spring assisted: The spring force is used to assist the reset to the middle position, combined with air pressure to control other positions.

Working principle
Two air control three position
Receive two independent air pressure signals (such as A and B) and drive the piston through a combination of air pressure:
Signal A: Push piston to full open position.
Signal B: Push piston to full off position.
No signal (A/B no pressure) : The spring or balanced air pressure keeps the piston in the middle position.
Spring return type
The single air control signal drives the piston to the fully open or fully closed position, and the spring force automatically resets to the middle position.
