Working Principle
XM Scotch yoke pneumatic actuators are driven by compressed air. They convert linear motion into rotational motion through a mechanical structure and are widely used in the automated control of industrial valves, such as ball valves and butterfly valves.
Air Source Drive
Compressed air enters the cylinder through the air port, pushing the piston to move to one side. When the air flow direction is reversed, the piston returns.
Motion Conversion
The linear motion of the piston is converted into the rotational motion of the crank through the scotch yoke mechanism. Thanks to the lever principle of the scotch yoke, the movement of the piston with a small stroke can be transformed into the rotation of the shaft at a large angle (usually 90° or 180°), and meanwhile, the output torque is amplified.
Torque Output
The mechanical advantage of the scotch yoke structure enables it to output a greater torque than a rack - and - pinion actuator under the same air pressure. It is especially suitable for valves with large diameters and high torque requirements.
